Seeing Numbers:
The Art of Intuition
Augmented Reality (AR), Book Design, Print(Concept Project)
Seeing Numbers is an exhibition catalog that allows readers to see a range of artists who use math to directly influence their work and helps viewers realize the beauty behind calculation.
While mathematics is normally considered on
the opposite spectrum of the arts, there are revered artists who use math as a medium. This exhibition celebrates the organic beauty behind the use of calculation, system, and formula to communicate to two diverging audiences: math fanatics and art lovers.
To maintain the theme of math and art the book layout was calculated, as well. The artist pages were inlaid every 48 pages while the page layouts were inspired by the coordinate plane and the Golden Ratio.
Mathematica
The augmented reality (AR) component of Seeing Numbers, “Mathematica”, serves as a promotional element to the exhibition, as AR experiences are more accessible with Instagram and Snapchat. Conceptually, it illustrates the relationship between numbers with nature.
The AR focuses on three aspects of this relationship: velocity, growth, and beauty. The user receives agency over the visual as their movements cause the expansion or contraction of these three elements.
